Unplug first. You will need to clean the inside of the refrigerator and the freezer with a good cleaner and warm water. After this you need to remove the rear panel in the back of the freezer and spray water with Clorox on the evaporator coil and pour some of the solution down the defrost condensate drain to disinfect and remove the odors that drain down that hole to be evaporated and returned to the air in your home. HOW TO CHECK A COMPRESSOR
Unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel that covers the compressor. There should be 3 wires going inside the cover of the compressor. Mark all 3 and mark their location so if compressor is OK you can put them back in same order. The plastic cover may snap on and you may need to squeeze the sides to unlock the cover and sometimes there is a metal clip holding the cover in place. Remove the cover. May look hard but it's simple. There will be three connections under the cover and 2 will go through the start relay. Unplug them leaving the three prongs exposed. They may be marked R =Run, S=Start and C=Common. Set your meter on continuity and then begin by testing 2 at a time until you have checked S to R and R to C an C to S and S to R again. You should get a reading all the way around. If no reading between any of the pairs as you go around you should get no reading between any two the compressor has an open winding and is defective.
Then if it passes that test then touch one probe to R and the other to the copper pipes or clean metal on outside of compressor, then S to metal outside and C to metal outside. If you get a reading this way even just a little. The compressor is a burnout. Then let me know what you find. Thanks, Sea Breeze

WHEN YOU JUST DON'T HAVE THE MODEL NUMBER

Your door switch may be the problem; it is a double pole single throw switch. When the door is closed the switch directs power to the dispenser. It also could be the control module in the dispenser panel. Not knowing your model number I must assume you also have a mother control board on the back of refrigerator. Some people are not aware that after you change your refrigerator water filter, there are two more steps that should be taken to complete the water filter change process.
Step 1:Reset your water filter indicator light - Most new refrigerators come equiped with an indicator light that notifies you when it is time to change your water filter. This light does not automatically reset when you change your water filter. Here is a list of refrigerator manufacturers and how to reset the indicator light.Amana Refrigerators - Press and hold the Auto and Dispenser Lock buttons until the water filter status indicator light flashes.Frigidaire Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Reset Button Until the Indicator Light Flashes.GE General Electric Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.HotPoint Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.Jenn-Air Refrigerators - Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes.Kitchen Aid Refrigerators - Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.Maytag Refrigerators - Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes.Samsung Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Ice Type and Child Lock Buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.Whirlpool Refrigerators - Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.
Step 2:Flush a couple of gallons of water through your new filter. Since most refrigerator water filters are made of carbon, some carbon residue is present in the first gallon or two of water. This will leave a bitter taste and residue in your water. If you continue to have these problems after flushing a couple of gallons through the filter, it is possible that you have a defective water filter.
Once these two steps are completed, you are all set to enjoy great tasting ice and water through your refrigerator. WATER LEAKING INTO THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT
This sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back of freezer...you may see ice build-up, melt ice with hair dryer, you will see a pan below evaporator, melt ice in pan, dry water up in pan with towel, now you should see drain hole in pan that leads to drain tube, pour some hot water in pan, wait a couple minutes, wipe up water and repeat this step 2-3 times, once you have done this use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner to suck out the gunk or blockage in the drain line. Now it is cleaned out! Put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...If you need any further assistance please feel free to comment again.
